These options are useful when making small, specific adjustments to the layout after your ebook is essentially finished.
Important: The positioning option should be used sparingly. When you enable Move Item Freely Around the Page, the selected element is removed from the normal content flow and can be placed anywhere on the page. Free-positioning too many elements can result in inconsistent page layouts when the ebook is published to PDF.
This tutorial applies to ebooks created in the Project Editor.
Important: Kindle/ePub books and Print Books use their own dedicated editors.
1. Move an Element Freely Around the Page
Select the element you want to reposition.
In the left sidebar, open Positioning and toggle ON Move Item Freely Around the Page.
The element can now be dragged and placed anywhere within the available space on the page.
Once an element has been set to move freely, it is no longer part of the normal page flow. For this reason, this option is best used for occasional finishing adjustments rather than for arranging large sections of your ebook.
2. Lock the Element in Position
After placing the element where you want it, you can prevent it from being moved accidentally.
With the element selected, open Positioning in the left sidebar and toggle ON Lock Item.
The element will remain locked in its current position while you continue editing the page.
Use positioning and locking as finishing tools for individual elements or specific pages. For the best results, keep most of the ebook content in the normal page flow and use free positioning only where a particular layout adjustment is needed.
