How to Create a Print-Ready Book for Amazon KDP
The Print Books feature allows Premium users to convert their existing drafts saved in the 'Docs' section into professionally formatted, print-ready books that meet Amazon KDP specifications.
This guide walks you through the complete process, from selecting your manuscript to downloading your final print files.
Step 1: Start a New Print Book Project
Go to your dashboard.
Click the Print Books banner
orOpen an existing Doc and choose Create Print Book.
Note: Print Books are available exclusively for Premium users.
The workflow is similar to other project types, so the process will feel familiar.
Step 2: Choose Your Book Size & Format
Default Trim Size
The default format is 6 × 9 inches, the most popular paperback size.
Automatic Unit Detection
US users → Inches
International users → Millimeters
The system remembers your preferred unit selection.
Additional Sizes
You can select from multiple trim sizes — all aligned with Amazon KDP print requirements.
Once selected, proceed to formatting options.
Step 3: Add a Table of Contents (Optional)
Click the Table of Contents icon.
Choose how many heading levels to display (2–4 levels).
Important Notes:
The Table of Contents is automatically generated.
The TOC text is not editable (to prevent formatting conflicts).
Page numbers update automatically in real time.
Step 4: Adjust Layout & Typography
You can customize:
Page layout
Professionally designed print font styles
Formatting structure
These fonts and layouts are optimized specifically for printed books to ensure readability and compliance with print standards.
Current Limitation
At this time, the system does not automatically force each chapter to start on a new page.
If needed, you can manually move content to the next page. This functionality is expected to be improved in a future update.
Step 5: Generate Your Book Cover
Once your manuscript formatting is complete click on the 'Next' blue button and then 'Start Cover Creation'
Proceed to Cover Creation
The system automatically applies:
Trim size
Page count
Spine width
Proper bleed settings
A default cover template loads automatically.
You can:
Change the template
Adjust layout elements
Customize design details
The generated cover will perfectly match your manuscript’s dimensions.

Step 6: Preview Your Print Files
After cover generation:
A preview screen appears.
The cover is displayed at the top.
You’ll see real-time progress while the preview is generated.
Carefully review both the interior and cover before downloading.
Step 7: Download Your KDP-Ready Files
When preview generation is complete, you can download:
Cover file
Interior manuscript PDF
These two files are the exact file pair required by Amazon KDP for paperback submission.
You can now upload them directly to your KDP account.
Step 8: Access Your Created Print Books
To find your previously created print projects:
Go to the Docs tab.
Select the Print Books section.
Note: This section may be reorganized in a future update.
